Disability Employment Assistance
Disability Employment Assistance under the NDIS is designed to support participants of working age, including students transitioning into adulthood, to achieve their employment goals. These supports focus on building the skills, confidence, and capacity needed to find and maintain meaningful employment or engage in further education.
Individual Employment Support
Individualised support is tailored to each participant’s unique goals, strengths, and challenges. This may include helping participants explore what employment means for them through discovery activities, building essential foundation skills such as communication and workplace readiness, and addressing complex barriers that may impact their ability to secure or sustain a job.Participants may also receive assistance with specialised job customisation, developing a personalised career plan, and transitioning from an Australian Disability Enterprise (ADE) to open employment. Additional capacity-building supports are provided to improve the likelihood of successful engagement with Disability Employment Services (DES) and long-term employment outcomes.
Employment Preparation and Support in a Group (Group of 3)
Group-based employment supports offer similar benefits in a collaborative environment, typically with small groups of participants. These sessions allow individuals to develop workplace skills, share experiences, and build confidence alongside peers. Activities may include career exploration, skill development, overcoming employment barriers, and preparing for job opportunities. It is important to note that this support does not apply to certified education courses, even if delivered by a provider. Accredited training programs, such as Certificate-level courses, are funded through the vocational education system rather than the NDIS.
School Leaver Employment Supports (SLES)
School Leaver Employment Supports are specifically designed for students transitioning from school to employment. These capacity-building supports are introduced during the final year of school and included in the participant’s NDIS plan to ensure a smooth transition after leaving school.SLES focuses on helping young people develop practical skills, explore career pathways, and gain the confidence needed to move into employment or further training. The goal is to prepare participants for sustainable employment and greater independence as they enter the workforce.
Overall, Disability Employment Assistance aims to empower participants to achieve their career aspirations, overcome barriers, and actively participate in the workforce and community.
