Daily support Shared Living -SIL NDIS
Daily Tasks and Shared Living supports, including Supported Independent Living (SIL), are designed to assist individuals with higher support needs to live as independently as possible while receiving the care they require. These supports focus on helping participants build essential life skills and maintain a safe, structured, and supportive living environment.Supported –
Independent Living may involve an arrangement where a participant lives with a host family. In this setup, the host family holds the required qualifications and provides support within the home for an agreed period. The level of support is tailored to the participant’s needs, with funding based on the number of hours of assistance required and the duration of the stay.Shared living arrangements also provide daily support in a home environment where assistance is delivered either on a one-to-one basis or shared among residents. . The support is typically calculated hourly, and when shared, the cost is divided among the number of participants receiving support. This ensures flexibility while still addressing individual care needs. A key focus of SIL is assisting and supervising participants with daily life tasks to help them develop skills and confidence. This includes activities such as personal care, meal preparation, household tasks, and community participation. The goal is to empower individuals with complex support needs to live as autonomously and independently as possible.
Short Term Accommodation (STA) may also be part of shared living supports, offering integrated assistance that includes accommodation, meals, personal care, and activities in a centre or group residence. These stays are typically short-term (up to 14 consecutive days), with all standard expenses included within a 24-hour period. In situations where participants require additional support during STA, extra assistance can be provided. For example, if a participant requires one-to-one support for personal care in addition to standard STA arrangements, or if more than one support worker is needed for a certain period, this can be arranged to ensure safety and comfort.
Additionally, support is available to help participants maintain Individual Living Options (ILO), including co-residency or host family arrangements. These transitional supports are designed to provide stability while helping participants move towards long-term, sustainable living arrangements.Overall, Daily Support and Shared Living services under SIL aim to provide personalised, flexible, and supportive environments that promote independence, skill development, and improved quality of life.
